If you suffer from the uncomfortable pressure or pain from bloating or cramps when your period visits for the month, registered dietitian nutritionist Carlie Beaucejour shared these three nutrition tips on her Instagram page @mindfuleatingdietitian.

  1. Eat calcium-rich foods: It's a "mineral that can help reduce muscle spasms and cramps," Beaucejour said; she recommends eating yogurt, tofu, and spinach.
  2. Eat your fruits: These are full of healthy carbohydrates and also fiber, which can help alleviate the constipation that can happen during your period. Bananas are a good choice because they're high in potassium, which Beaucejour said can help reduce cramps. This banana spinach tofu smoothie would be perfect!
  3. Stay hydrated! Being dehydrated during your period can make symptoms worse, so Beaucejour said to drink lots of water, and try to avoid caffeine and alcohol if you can.

"Check out these three nutrition tips to help relieve some of your menstrual symptoms next time around," Beaucejour said. They could make a big difference in how you feel.
